"Study Shows Concealed Carry Has No Affect On Crime" That's the headline today for an AP story covering the release of a gun control study. (AP) MADISON A study to be released today says concealed weapons laws in other states have not affected crime rates. In a study that provided evidence against gun control and in favor of concealed carry, this is the one statement the author of the article was able to latch on to in order to support an anti-gun bias. What the writer doesn't consider is the findings of Author and Economist John Lott's research which showed that crime rates for crimes against persons went down, with that crime being displaced to property crimes. While the overall crime rate remained fairly constant, less people were being attacked by criminals. Seems like an affect on crime to me. Study author David Dodenhoff he also found that if a crime is committed, the criminal is less likely to be successful if the victim produces a weapon. (sic) So this study found that while the crime was still attempted, it was unsuccessful. Seems like an affect on crime to me. He says a criminal is more likely to move on to another victim if he suspects someone is carrying a weapon. If the criminal is worried that a state's concealed handgun laws would have enabled an intended victim to be armed, the criminal won't commit the crime. Seems like an affect on crime to me. This is yet another example of the liberal media attempting to massage data to fit their own agenda. They write a headline saying ccw doesn't affect crime, then list several examples of how it does affect crime. The conclusions of the author of this study actually support ccw laws. I'd prefer a criminal broke into and stole my car rather than carjacking me while I'm in it. And I'd certainly rather a criminal planning to rob me changed his mind because he was afraid I might be armed, or turned tail and ran when I was able to defend myself. Instead of trying to trick readers into following an anti-gun doctrine , maybe media outlets should instead be concerned about actually serving up the truth and helping to increase personal security. Reading the full text of the study shows that concealed carry laws are, in fact, a good thing. Apparently for this writer, the truth is unfit to print.
