An article written by Senator Tom Niehaus appeared on Cincinnati.com Thursday covering the legislative successes and bills that didn't move forward before the Senate recessed on May 24th. Despite overwhemling efforts by Ohioans For Concealed Carry supporters to get HB347 passed out of the Ohio Senate prior to the summer recess, HB347 never left the Senate Jordan's Committee of the Judiciary. Back room politics caused Senate leadership to halt the bill's progress. From the Niehaus article : "The active effort of supporters of the conceal carry bill, HB 347, to bring the bill to a vote failed. The bill never came out of committee, and therefore was not on the calendar for a vote. I still expect that bill to be passed this fall." During the summer recess HB347 rights supporters need to get involved in the campaigns of those Senators seeking re-election, attend campaign events and fairs, and urge Senators to move HB347 as promptly as possible. If we can't pass this legislation quickly Ohioans who carry will have to suffer another winter season with the obligation of carrying openly in a vehicle while wearing a winter coat. |
