Crowbar Wielding Assailant Killed During Robbery PDF Print E-mail

Two men broke into a Columbus carryout store and one was killed after he allegedly menaced an 18-year-old employee who spent the night in the store after staying late to stock shelves.

According to the Columbus Dispatch:
The burglars broke the lock off a security gate, then smashed the front door glass to enter the store.

[Detective Jay] Fulton said it appears the employee came out of the office and fired a handgun when he was confronted by a masked man with a crow bar behind the store's counter.

Columbus police say it appears to be a case of self defense and the employee has not been charged. As the death occurred during the commission of a felony, the second robber has been charged with both aggravated burglary and murder.

This story might have had a very different ending had the employer banned the store clerk from having a firearm for self protection.

All the emotional "for the children" arguments in the world for banning guns and turning the store into a Criminal Protection Zone wouldn't have protected him had he been forced to face these two criminals unarmed.

Guns in law abiding hands save lives.
