The number two spots on the Ohio Gubernatorial tickets represent vastly different views when it comes to the rights of gun owners.

Democratic running mate Lee Fisher was a member of the Handgun Control Inc. Board of Directors according to This NRA Fact Sheet.

In contrast, Republican running mate Tom Raga has been outspoken about gun rights, is the keynote speaker at OFCC's third annual Party In The Park, and recently passed the training required by law to obtain a concealed handgun license in Ohio.

In a 1994 edition of the "PROponent" the Columbus based People's Rights Organization had the following to say about Lee Fisher when he ran for Governor against Bob Taft:

Lee Fisher

While a member of the Ohio Senate, and later as Attorney General, has publicly supported all manner of gun control legislation including handgun registration, the Brady Bill, and the assault weapons ban. While a Senator, made the following statement: "I never met a gun control bill I didn't like." NRA rating F-

Lee Fisher was also involved in promoting a five-year plan to attempt to ban gun shows. His NRA rating of F- is the lowest possible, and is given only to the most rabid enemies of the Second Amendment.

Tom Raga, on the other hand, is a friend to gun owners and opposes the efforts of the gun control movement.

Recently, he joined over a dozen other members of Ken Blackwell's campaign staff for a ccw class sponsored by the OFCC PAC. For over twelve hours they studied the materials, passed a written test, and demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to safely handle a firearm culminating in live-fire range time at the Powder Room in Powell, Ohio.

"Not only do I consider concealed carry important public policy, but I consider it the right of every law abiding citizen," said Raga. "I fought to pass Ohio's first concealed carry law and I am currently co-sponsoring legislation that strengthens that law.

"I am a gun advocate and one of tens of thousands of Ohioans who will enjoy the right to carry a concealed firearm for self defense."

Considering the fact that Ted Strickland has been very close with Hillary Clinton (she even came to Cleveland to host a fundraiser for him) and that this has lead to rumors that he may be tapped to be a vice-presidential running mate if she decides to attempt a return to the White House, Ohio gun owners are right to be very concerned.

A Lee Fisher in the Governor's seat could set gun rights back decades in Ohio and lead to Ohio being the first state to ever lose concealed carry licensing after it is was enacted.
