Just days after the Sixth District handed down a poorly decided ruling that Ohio's Concealed Carry law is not a "general law" the Mayor of Columbus has proposed prohibiting guns in city parks. The same parks where law abiding citizens are most likely to want to defend themselves from criminal attack. Update: The Columbus Dispatch's Mike Harden wrote a sarcasm article about the events, Ban guns in parks so peace may reign, but failed to acknowledge the real question: In the past 2.5 years how have license holders contributed to any perceived problem in parks? As we predicted when this ruling came out, and as the dissenting opinon from judge Parish pointed out, the confusion is about to begin and local governments are going to act quickly to ban concealed carry en masse. Ohioans For Concealed Carry is seeking every possible angle to prevent such a knee-jerk reaction. We are working with our attorneys to investigate and pursue options with the courts, and simultaneously pleading with the legislature to come back from recess before the November election and resolve this situation through emergency legislation, or by amending HB347 to address the concerns raised by the Sixth District Court. Rest assured that if neccesary Ohioans For Concealed Carry will pursue legal action against cities that enact regulations outside of the Sixth District Court of Appeals and seek temporary restraining orders until this matter is resolved. Please consider joining Ohioans For Concealed Carry today and making a donation to our general fund through our online web store. How far these abuses may go is yet to be seen and the costs of pursuing multiple cases in the courts will quickly spread our resources thin. |
