| Store Owners Shoot In Self Defense |

Working in a convenience store can be one of the most dangerous jobs in America, and many in this industry have taken it upon themselves to take steps to protect themselves. In the past week alone, two Columbus area convenience stores have experienced, and prevented, violent armed robbery attempts. The first took place on January 30th at the Amira Market on Whittier Street; when, at approximately 8pm, two men entered the store and shot at the owner. He fired back in self-defense, and the two men fled. Columbus Police later received reports of a car-jacking in the area. On February 1st, two men entered the Walford Market in Clinton Township, again at approximately 8pm, waving a gun. The shop owner, who had previously used a gun to defend himself in the store, quickly fired two shots and sent the suspects scrambling. Police followed foot prints in the snow and found guns, gloves, and eventually two suspects. There is no indication that the two events are connected at this point - but both men survived their armed encounters and the Columbus news media have covered the stories. For all the negativity regarding firearms by biased media outlets, precious little space is dedicated to successful incidents of self-defense. The truth is that firearms are used millions of times per year to prevent criminal attempts from being successful. These are just two of the latest examples. |
