OFCC Member Gets "No Guns" Sign Removed From AT&T PDF Print E-mail

Every so often we like to highlight actions of OFCC members, and this particular email I received piqued my interest. Not only did member Dick Stobbs successfully get a "No Guns Allowed" sign removed from one AT&T store in Central Ohio, but potentially all of them in Ohio!

Re: "No Weapons Allowed" sign removed - AT&T Wireless, 1495 Polaris Park Way, Columbus

AT&T Wireless removed the sign on April 7, 2008; sending an e-mail by Robert Chumlea to inform us. The e-mail states:
"The sign" was removed today and if I heard correctly should also be removed from all AT&T stores state wide pending an official operations E-mail distribution! If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by E-mail or by phone. I thank you for your patience in the resolution of your issue and hope you continue to be a patron of AT&T.

Initially I visited the store on March 15, 2008 and presented Rob Chumlea with the "No Guns/Shopping Elsewhere" card. Mr Chumlea was very cooperative and understood the business aspect, as I informed him I am also an AT&T customer now 'out of contract' who will consider the Sign issue before I renew my AT&T contract.

Due to the fact the sign was originally placed by AT&T, later it became a Cingular Wireless store, then back to AT&T Wireless; store manager Jeff Tisone had to contact the Corporate Auditor to get clearance to remove the sign. The process involved several e-mails and telephone calls, but Jeff Tisone and Rob Chumlea were very diligent in resolving the issue.

Considering we are dealing with a large corporate organization I am pleased with how quickly they took action, and pleased they indicate AT&T will take the signs down in all stores in Ohio, not just the Polaris Park Way location!

I advised store manager Jeff Tisone that I would request AT&T Wireless be recognized in an on-line article, if possible. Also, I invited store manager Jeff Tisone to attend the OFCC Annual Picnic this year as my guest... he indicated that he or a representative would appreciate that opportunity.

Follow up: OFCC is pleased to extend an invitation to Mr. Tisone to attend our annual picnic (to be announced soon for those who are waiting!), and we thank him for his help in closing down a Criminal Protection Zone.
