The Handbook of Ohio Firearms Laws is an everyday reference to Ohio’s gun laws, written for the general public by Ohio attorney, and OFCC member, Sean M. Culley. Today, it was announced that pre-orders were being accepted.

The Handbook provides a wealth of information that is detailed enough to meet the needs of law enforcement, firearms instructors and legal professionals; but that is presented clearly and in a conversational style that anyone can understand and follow. Culley presents so much information on each topic that the Handbook is a necessary and useful reference for everyone ranging from firearms novices with the most basic questions to veteran gun owners in need of more advanced analysis.

The Handbook was near publication on June 10, 2008 when Senate Bill 184, which makes sweeping changes to Ohio’s firearms and use of force laws, was signed by Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. As a result, Culley’s book was totally re-written to address the issues presented by the new law. The Handbook is the only reference guide to the Ohio firearms and use of force laws written from the ground up with the Senate Bill 184 in mind.

The Handbook provides all the information an Ohio gun owner would ever need, ranging from the legal regulations on purchasing a firearm and keeping it in the home, to obtaining a license to carry a concealed handgun. In addition to these basic chapters, the book discussions of less common topics, such as how to legally own weapons regulated by the National Firearms Act (automatic weapons, short-barreled weapons, silencers, etc.), law concerning the possession and use of firearms by law enforcement officers, and an entire section on the legal processes that a gun owner may encounter in the wake of a self-defense shooting. Nearly all of the book’s 185 pages are dedicated to original analysis and not simply filled will reproductions of statutes (which are available for free via the internet).

Culley maintains a private law practice in Columbus, Ohio and enjoys working on firearms issues whenever possible. In addition to being a member of the National Rifle Association and Ohioans for Concealed Carry, Culley is an avid shooter and holds an Ohio License to Carry a Concealed Handgun.

Preorders are being accepted at Culley’s website: www.ohiogunlawyer.com, and books will be shipped well in advance of Senate Bill 184’s September 9th effective date.
