I just wanted to echo/confirm the accuracy of the comments made by my father, Jerry Thomas, on the radio yesterday (November 16, 2001). I happened to be filling in for his co-host that day, and Dad and I also discussed the topic off the air. Yes, Seitz did tell him at a Republican Club meeting this week that the concealed carry legislation would pass. Provided he's right -- and I have no reason to doubt Mr. Seitz -- my concern turns to getting Governor Taft with the program. Specifically, Taft has suggested that he will veto the legislation if it is not approved by law enforcement. As we have seen in the past, the opinions expressed by those appointed to speak on behalf of law enforcement do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the officers they purport to represent. Based upon conversations with the officers I have met (mostly through my sister), it appears that they strongly favor the legislation. I'll grant you that this is by no means an accurate way of ascertaining the true will of the police when it comes to concealed carry, but my strong suspicion is that they favor the legislation, and my deep concern that their representatives will voice opposition. If this turns out to be the case, the question will then be: How do we convince Bob Taft that concealed carry is not only the will of the people, but the police as well?
Keep up the good fight.
