Wednesday: HB274 & HB303 - Its time to attend! PDF Print E-mail

In a previous story we informed you that the Civil & Commercial Law Committee will meet Wednesday, February 20th, to bring a modified HB274 bill to the full committee. We also informed you that your presence was not required since no testimony was being accepted. Since then, we have learned that HB303, a statewide preemption bill, will be heard for the second time. This is proponent testimony only and your presence is highly encouraged for both bills. Supporters are encouraged to wear the now-famous OFCC Blue Denim Shirt (any blue denim shirt should do) and a pair of khaki's or similar attire to these events. (why is this "famous"?)

Ohioans For Concealed Carry is currently an interested party in House Bill 303, and is very likely to support the final product should it move to the house floor. This legislation, introduced by Representative Young, would require all firearms laws in the State of Ohio to be uniform statewide.

When the plaintiffs in the Hamilton County Concealed Carry lawsuit tried to have a stay lifted (to prevent concealed carry in Hamilton County) numerous officials representing the State of Ohio argued that the existing concealed carry law should be "uniform across the state of Ohio" (paraphrased). This legislation would make all firearms laws uniform in the state of Ohio and prevent individual cities from enacting rules that contradict state law. Gun control extremists and anti-self defense people are opposed to this legislation due to their better chances of passing extreme gun control in small city councils.

The hearing will be at 9:00AM in Room 114. Please arrive early to find parking and obtain a seat, as this hearing room is small and likely to fill up quickly. For details, contact Rep. Willamowski's office at (614) 466-9624
