For those of you who don't know this story well, Michael Bellesiles wrote a book about the history of firearm ownership in early America. The book was clearly written in an effort to literally change history and hopefully convince numerous people that firearms were not common in early America. What Bellesiles obviously didn't expect was a significant rebuttal by people in acadamia, history, and non-political and non-firearm organizations. It is clearly obvious that everyone is slowly distancing themselves from Bellesiles efforts, and the lies are being discovered and made public.
