From the Cincinnati Enquirer

"Ohio Sen. Mike DeWine became the first Republican in Congress on Tuesday to endorse a national database for ballistic images, saying it was foolish not to use all available technology to catch criminals."

Gun control groups cheered Mr. DeWine, saying his support could help the bill get passed next year.

Unfortunately we have 4 more years of these uninformed solutions from Sen. DeWine.

[Editor's Note] Let's get the terminology correct. It is not a "Ballistic Fingerprint" it is a "Ballistic Signature". Fingerprints are unique, relatively permanent, and are regularly used to arrest and convict the guilty. Fingerprinting is absolutely impossible to accomplish with bullets and cases short of embedding something like DNA into each bullet and case. Even if this technology were possible, the billions of rounds of ammunition produced each year would create a massive and unmanageable bureaucracy.

The "signature" term is accurate because it reflects the true nature of what happens with bullets and their cases. A "ballistic signature" like a human signature can be forged, altered, disguised or erased. In addition, a "ballistic signature" will change over time, and through use.

Let's identify this "Ballistic Signature" scheme for what it really is, gun owner registration.
