On Dec 30th 2002 at 7 PM on the 2nd floor of City Hall in Xenia (101 N. Detroit Street, Xenia Ohio.) there will be a City of Xenia City Counsel meeting with a PUBLIC HEARING on allowing the existing ordinance integration into the current city codes. There will first be the public hearing and review of the changes. They will then convene and in at least 2 weeks hold another meeting so the counsel can vote on the issue. Of course, they can also table the issue while changes are made or other issues are met.
At this public hearing the PRO GUN grass roots movement will be imperative in getting the public perception up to speed in so far as WHO IS A GUN OWNER. At one of the previous meetings one neighbor stated "I did not want the riff raff in the neighborhood." Another neighbor said "I don't want to hear them loud pick up trucks with gun racks in the window going up and down my street." Folks, many people understand who a current gun owner is, however, the vast majority only sees the imaged and mug shots from the evening news. This is where they are getting their perception of who we are. We need to have as many responsible gun owners in the building as we can get. I DO NOT want to 'cause a ruckus' or put anyone in a combative mindset, this will only prove their perceptions correct. If you can be there during the busy holiday schedule I would greatly appreciate it! If the new ordinance is passed, and is acceptable to TPDC in so far as allowing us to meet our business needs, we will have to apply to the Xenia Board of Zoning Appeals for the conditional use of the property. This will also require a public hearing and vote by the board.
